Dia De Los Muertos
Dia de los Muertos in Santa Ana, California — one of my favorite days to go out and shoot. The streets come alive with color: papel picado fluttering overhead, marigolds lining altars, and faces painted with meticulous calaveras that blend reverence and celebration. Families gather to remember loved ones, children parade in costume, and the scent of pan de muerto and incense threads through the crowd.
I love photographing the contrast of intimate moments and bold pageantry — the quiet offerings at an ofrenda, the proud stance of a performer, the way evening light softens painted cheeks. The city’s murals and historic architecture create striking backdrops, adding texture and context to every frame. On this day, portraits feel like stories, details feel like history, and every shot carries both joy and remembrance.

Granddaughter Olivia,
Practice makes perfect. My practice with family and friends has helped me expand my knowledge, patience, and confidence. Watching you grow has reminded me that learning is a journey—small steps add up, and every try brings improvement.
